Gdańsk Insider is an independent English-language travel guide. No sponsored top-10 lists, no paid hotel placements, no fluff. Just the city we know, written for the traveller we'd want to be helpful to.
We started Gdańsk Insider because the English-language travel content about Gdańsk is dominated by two extremes: generic top-10 listicles that look the same on every site, and sponsored hotel guides that recommend whichever property paid the most. Neither tells you what it's actually like to spend three days in this city in November.
Our editorial mission is simple: write the guide we wish existed when foreigners ask us about Gdańsk. Honest about what is overrated (some of the tourist-strip pierogi places, parts of Mariacka in July), enthusiastic about what is underrated (Wrzeszcz, the Maritime Museum, late-October at the beach), and specific where most guides are vague (exact tram numbers, real opening hours, current prices in złoty).
We focus on Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia, and the Polish Baltic coast — including day trips to Malbork Castle, the Hel Peninsula, Stutthof Memorial, and Kashubia. If a question can be answered well in a 1000-word article, we'd rather write that than a 5000-word SEO-stuffed wall of text.
Gdańsk Insider is a small editorial project — the size that allows us to actually verify everything we publish. No content farm, no AI-generated listicles dressed up as journalism. Every piece is written, fact-checked, and edited by the people listed below.
We are growing the editorial team in 2026 — local food writer and architecture/history specialist are joining later this year.
Yes — Gdańsk is one of the most underrated cities in Northern Europe. It offers 1000 years of Baltic Hanseatic history, Europe's largest brick castle (Malbork, 1 hour away), the world's amber capital, and the cheapest North-Sea-equivalent coastal experience in the EU. Budget €60-80 per day per person all-in, plan 3 days minimum, base yourself in Główne Miasto (Old Town). Best months: May, June, September.
Gdańsk Insider is editorially independent, but we have a commercial partnership with ShuttleHero (premium Gdansk airport transfers & day tours). The same team that runs Gdańsk Insider also operates ShuttleHero. This means:
Some hotel and apartment links use the local hotels Affiliate Partner program. We earn a small commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. Hotels are chosen on editorial merit — never sorted or recommended by commission rate.
We do not accept paid placements in editorial content. We do not run sponsored "top 10" lists. We do not let restaurants, museums or tour operators write content for us in exchange for visibility.
Plain-English version: Some links pay us a small commission if you click and book. We disclose this. We only recommend things we'd recommend to a friend. If something is overrated or bad, we say so — even if the company is a paying partner.
Facts: Every article published on Gdańsk Insider is fact-checked at the time of publication. Prices, opening hours and routes are verified against official sources (museum websites, ZTM Trójmiasto public transport, PKP train timetables, official tourist board, hotel websites).
Updates: We add a "Last updated" date to every guide. Articles about prices/transport are reviewed at least every 6 months; evergreen content (history, architecture) is reviewed annually.
Corrections: Material errors are corrected as soon as we are notified. A short correction note is added at the bottom of the article with the date of the change. Reach us at hello@gdanskinsider.com.
AI policy: Gdańsk Insider does not publish unedited AI-generated content. We may use AI tools for grammar checking, image generation (clearly marked) and research assistance, but every published article is written and signed off by a human editor who has been to the places described.
